Simple but not simplistic, all fresh, all good. Well, when I say simple... don't get me wrong! Cooking takes mastering! Which is the contrary to what we have regularly observed on our trips around town! So! Christopher Peters has seriously started mastering the subtleties of his art at the age of only twenty or so! Bright, colourful dishes and a sense of detail encouraged by his gastronomic training. They don't look like Picasso paintings but good-looking bistrot dishes! Am I being clear? Not really? I didn't think so. I'm not going to start rewriting all of this so I shall narrate my meal concisely. Well, "our" meal as I'm having lunch with Mauricette, you know, the one who looks like "la femme au chapeau bleu" (lady with a blue hat) painted by Picasso, but this one's as blind as a bat and has a green hat. There's still the lunchtime formula at 12 €. Guess what the main course is... Steak and chips? Chicken and cheese in breadcrumbs? Charcuterie? Spaghetti Bolognaise? Hohoho... "Mi-cuit de thon aux graines de sésame, sauce soja montée au beurre, purée de ciboulette et wok de légumes" (tuna fish with sesame seeds, soya sauce with butter, chive puree and vegetable wok)? The presentation catches your eye, and the food only has to do its job. The fish is on a circle of puree and the vegetables are crisp tagliatelles. 15/20. The "panacotta au caramel" finishes Mauricette off, she is seduced as she wasn't expecting as much, 14,5/20. As for me: "souris d'agneau confite 3h aux abricots" (lamb crystallised for 3 hours with apricots). The chef's sense of measure is an advantage to his customers! The garnishing is common to both of our dishes (chive puree and vegetable wok), but at least it's fresh. The meat melts in my mouth and the short jus is fruity. 14,5/20. My "fondant au chocolat" (sticky chocolate cake) plays the game: the taste and smell of real chocolate! 14,5/20! Slight dampener: the kitchens should be equipped with a plate warmer! It is absolutely necessary if you want to take your time eating. So! Set at the foot of the old town, in a pedestrian street, white cotton cloths even on the patio, smiles and real kindness from the waiters. A chance in a million to stand up to this town and its ravages if you have the strange idea of wanting a lovely meal in a place that tickles your fancy!
