Pleasant enough table
When the sea is rough like it is at the moment, it feels like Brittany is blowing in your face, Douarnenez in your eyes. The big waves tickle the terrace where fag smokers stand looking worried: they're watching their shoes in case they get wet. It's funny, because if I was in their shoes I would worry about my lungs. But who am I to complain, everyone does as he pleases anyway. Mauricette's snout aims for "moules au Roquefort" (mussels with Roquefort cheese) at 10,50 €, they are correct but no more than that. At least you can taste the cheese. The size of the mussels varies. From small and brown (she puts these on the edge of the plate) to big and orange; these are good. 13/20. I have the daily formula and "daube de lièvre, tagliatelles" (hare stew, tagliatelles pasta). As purely personal logic I would say that the chef must know a beef stew recipe. It isn't badly made although the hairy beast is a little tough and dry. 14/20. The lady with the green hat had a feeling that we ought to stop here, and we should have done. There is an army of desserts and the flag carrier: "tarte au citron meringuée" (lemon meringue pie) isn't bad at 12/20 for 4,50 €. The tinned custard isn't enough to improve the "fondant au cacao" (sticky cocoa cake). You'd need a tank of the stuff. It looks and tastes like a sponge. It's annoying to be served something like this! And it's even worse when you think that someone actually bought it. 4/20 and 4,80 €. The young waiter informs us that this place has just been taken over by the whole family, which probably means his own. He's friendly and still surprised by everything, not blasé at all but fresh. The coffee is delicious. We don't do too badly for 35,30 € for two, but I must say that we were served at a table dating back to the Merovingian era, near to the bar because that is what this place is. And eating on a Merovingian table is priceless.
